G2K our guest 'on' the pink couch

G2K our guest 'on' the pink couch

The ghost of corona found its way to the nicest student city of the Netherlands. Despite that, time after time KIC proves she can’t sit still. Creative solutions are invented, new skills are learned and all of this with success. During the past weeks, we were able to enjoy our KIC’ers on the big screen through a KIC livestream. For example, we saw the pub quiz of the introduction week, the committee market and now the first lecture of the year!

Thursday October 1st, it was time for the lecture. The lecture was hosted by Bastian Cuperus, former praeses, and his guest was Yuri Nauta, digital director at G2K. Once again, you saw Bas on the familiar pink couch. Bas and Yuri were linked through a live connection because Yuri was stuck at home due to a cold.

Within the agency, Yuri is responsible for all digital and web related projects. G2K is an agency that focuses on brand identity, campaigns, editorial and book design, packaging design, websites, film and animation and exhibition design. Yuri says the agency has been around for over twenty years. Bas, the mathematician of KIC, asks him about his age. Yuri is thirty years old, and with a difficult calculation Bas concludes that Yuri hasn’t been there since the beginning of the agency. That’s true, Yuri is working at the agency for three years now. Before his career at G2K, he and a few former students of Minerva started an agency named PIT. Over the years, PIT and G2K merged into one creative agency which is focused on film and animation.

Creativity is everywhere within the company. Yuri proves this by showing a few projects G2K has worked on. G2K did the rebranding of the RUG, the logo and giftcard design for RITM and they designed the branding for the Forum. At the end of the lecture, Bas curiously asks Yuri which project he is most proud of. This is obvious for him: Het Forum. The logo the agency created can be applied in many different ways. For example, the animation of Shaun the Sheep and the face of Donald Trump both fit in the logo. Then you know you have created a special logo.

Finally, Yuri was asked if he has any advice for students. He explains that starting your own company really adds value to your study time. You get to know the business without being dependent on the revenues of the company. Also, you discover your talents, something that can be valuable once you’re graduated. Another benefit is that you won’t find yourself in the so-called ‘black hole’ if you can’t start working immediately after your graduation.

Everything comes to an end, and so unfortunately does the lecture. With new knowledge and inspiration in the pocket, the students can continue dreaming about their own future. Perhaps they will start their own company, or they would like to work behind the scenes of such a successful livestream. As long as the corona crisis continues to haunt us, we hope that we can continue to experience more activities this way.
